Hey kids!

Just finished testing out my new, still very primative recording setup. Looking through my song scribblers seeing if there are any blank pages to be found. And in the process finding some old songs that i might dust off.

Anyway, I figure most of my good friends either still got this on a feed or will come running to this after they see my "status update". Facebook, sheesh! Anyway, i'm doing fine. And for those curious, yes, she dumped me. Though, in hindsight, I could see this coming but probubly just didn't want to believe it. And there's absolutely no blame involved, we're still gonna be friends and hang out (hell, there's still a carboy of her white wine we have to bottle)(though I have had some of the red) (ok, a good bit of the red) so this is not like the end of the world or anything.

In conclusion, I'm a ok, can't wait to start jamming and recording again, and I'm playing a Stop Motion Massacre show thursday with Dead Pinkertons, Meat Curtains, and Party Ghosts.

And maybe I'll start posting on this thing again. Who knows!

My drumming's getting better, but i still have pretty far to go.

Everything's been going so well lately. And it's all do to the many gradual changes I've made in my life. Moving, accepting a promotion, getting more imvolved in music...I feel like I'm more secure with myself and my life than I've ever been. I actually feel that, heaven forbid, if I were to actually stumble into some kind of relationship-type thing I might be able to, you know, not make it a disaster. So, yeah...

Now that's not to say that I'm gonna rush out and find myself a girl or whatever. But, for the first time in quite a while, i'm open to the idea. And we're talking slow, like snail-pace here. First sign of "drama", and I'm going back in my nice, safe emotional bubble.

I really need a day where I have no work, or band, or social committments so I can finally get my room straight and away. It still looks like a disaster zone! I'm off tuesday...hopefully then.

Other than that things have been going pretty well. It's nice to come home and have friends to talk to and hang out with. And it was revealed that I'm more or less a manager now at work. Not sure how i feel about that really...it's definitely a step up. I get a raise and in September i'll be on salery. I think it's just the title of "manager" itself that puts me off. And, if anything, it should encourage me to work more on band stuff. Which I definitely need to dedicate more time to.

Time...I just don't seem to have enough of it these days. There's so much stuff that i want to do and not enough time to do it all. Which, when i think of it, is not that bad a problem really. And if that's the only real problem in my life, then I should count myself lucky.

Looks like that flu that i had beat has come back with a vengeance. I would have called in sick today, but I was closing and felt a sense of responsibility to drag my ass out of bed. Good thing too, since my manager and another hardware employee had already called in sick. Then Davis called to say he couldn't make it in because he had a big school project due tomorrow.

Short three workers? No problem for an energetic hardware supervisor like me!

Made myself a pretty hearty supper, and right now I'm enjoying some warm, lemony, take-this-cold-away-from-me goodness. Hopefully I'll be better in the morning.

That was, perhaps, one of the worst hangovers i've had in my life. Just when i thought it was over, it was back again. But I feel alright now, though i'm a little tired due to it completely fucking with my sleep scheduele. But, yeah, the routine of huge headache, puking, and passing out...I don't really reccommend it.

Anyway, It looks pretty nice out, so I think i'm gonna grab a much needed shower and check it out. Maybe see if anyone's doing anything tonite that doesn't involve alcohol in any way, shape, of form.

Chasing Heather Crazy is such a good song!! Pollard has this ability to make insanely catchy songs with little to no effort. It almost makes me rethink the direction i'm going with the band with Marty and Beardo. But I do like how it's going. Can't wait to finally get some lap steel going in it!

First off, i'm really, really glad Dale took my pedal. So much better than the altenative, though i did freak out a bit when i couldn't find it. Secondly...alright yes, i think we (spincycle...kinda cool that i have to clarify that), and by we i mean me, could've played better. But i did have fun. How could i not? I love playing with dale, marty and christian. Actually, jamming was probubly more fun than the show...like it was more for us. And the cover...that was probubly the most fun of the night.

Seems to be a pretty stormy night outside, or at least it sounds like it.

So, yeah, I guess it's been a while since I wrote here. Things have been going pretty well for me. I've accepted something of a promotion at work, which basically involves me doing all the stuff I usually do with the added bonus of the key to the store. I suspect I'll be closing the store a few nights a week pretty soon. In the past, I've always viewed such a move as being undesirable. That by taking on this level of responsability, I'm actually conceeding to a life of retail hell. Of course, another way to look at it it that I finally feel confident enough in myself to take on these new responsabilities. I think it's more of the latter, and try not to think of the former.

And, really, things are going so well for me these days that I don't believe I've made any concessions at all. The new band with peter and martin is plugging along, slowly but surly. The GBV cover band played to people for the first time on monday and though i did get a bit too drunk and played a little...ok, quite a bit sloppily, in hindsight I think it went well for a first time out. And it looks like Le Coque is gonna start playing and jamming again. Added to that my harmonica playing in JWolf and things are pretty awesome music-wise in my life.

This is usually the point where i'd say something about my personal life...and...I got nothing. I've been having a great time hanging out with friends and stuff, but that's pretty much the extent of it. Which is all I want right now. Ok, that's not entirely true. Once and a while a hint of loneliness will creep in and make me question my wants and needs. But then I quickly remind myself of what that ever got me, along with how good my life actually is. And that sometimes you're better off just being content with what you have.

Alright, well...that wasn't so hard. I haven't been writing so much because, in a way, I think things are better if I keep my thoughts to myself. While I've been pretty active socially with parties, shows...whatever, I feel like i've kinda been mentally and emotionally cutting myself off from people. Repositioning myself? I don't know...nor am I totally sure if it's a good thing or a bad thing.

Fuck, now I'm just rambling.

Anyway, abridged version: Life is good. Lot of music going on. Just want to hang out with my friends and have a good time.

And for the record, my valentine's day will be spent working til 7, then most likely renting a movie and chilling out at home. And I'm quite happy with that.

Ok, i'm more than a little bit nervous right now. You see, i've never jammed with any of these guys before. Which i'm not usually very comfortable with. And we're doing covers, which i'm terrible at. Sure they're relatively simple songs, but the thing is...i just don't learn covers. I learned to play guitar by writing songs with it. Just learned a few chords and away i went! Which is why i called in sick at work and stayed in listening and playing GBV songs.

Essentially, i'm afraid they'll see me for the terrible, terrible guitarist that i really am.

Well, bit of a surprise when I got home from jamming tonight. My beer was ready to rack! Bit of a surprise...could have sworn it wasn't at all ready this morning. Last one took an extra day. Mind you, this one isn't gonna have as much alcohol, probably 5%. Still, i have high hopes for its drinkability! And it should definitely be ready in time for New Years!!

Well, i was going to head out tonight, but then the brewing took longer than I figured. Not sure if i'm gonna be satisfied with the final outcome. I was working with a recipe involving a canned beer kit, with added malt extract and hops to make a bitter. The thing is, it called for 650g unhopped light liquid malt extract and 650g HOPPED light liquid malt extract. The guy at the store was confused, because all he knew of was the unhopped. He made a call to someone else, who didn't add much insight other than "they could try to order it over from burnside, but it's PROBUBLY just extract with hops thrown into it." And, with that logic, I was convinced to just add more hops to the whole thing when I boil. Hopefully it will turn out OK.

And my place smells like a brewery.

So, yeah, since I work at eight I'm just gonna head to bed. I can go a friday night without seeing some music...even if there are some really fun shows going on...

Alright, must go to sleep before I convince myself not to.

i think that was the best solo set that i've done ever! It helped that i played the electric guitar this time, and didn't sit down. I mean, most of the people there still weren't into it, but I didn't really care. I just really enjoyed it. It was mostly spincycle stuff, though i did do a Ryan Adams cover. And I was noisy at times, which I was very proud of. It was just...I'm gonna have fun, and fuck everyone else. Though it was good to see brad, dan, and nathan there. And Beardo, though he did came down with me to help with the, yes, three pitchers! And I got some money too, which I'm putting towards making a new batch of beer for the big New Year's bash! Which should be fun, and pretty much involve none of our friends having to pay for booze on New Year's!!!

Anyway, I should get to sleep. Even though I don't have to work til 12.

Let's try to retain some sense of responsibility!

Playing alone on stage is pretty terrifying. It's so much easier with a band. They're your safety net. If you fuck up, the guys are there to keep it together. Plus it's more like jamming with your friends and...i don't know, I'm just much more comfortable in a band setting.

So why the hell did I agree to play another solo set? Really...I have no idea.

So, my great charge to clean up my place yesterday was pretty much a success. All that's left is a little re-organization in the bedroom, and putting some laundry away. I'm also thinking of shortening the legs on my desk to make it more like a coffee table-type thing. It would lend well to having people over which, yes, i'm actually considering doing. Then people can finally check for the dead bodies. Not alot of people, mind you. Coming over, i mean. Who knows how many dead bodies i have. I've lost count...

My place is still pretty small. But i basically want to use it as an excuse to get some board games happening. I've been craving some tabletop gaming for a while now.

And speaking of gaming this is my new obsession. I actually won my first game! Me!! I usually suck at the tabletop version. Maybe it's that it takes place over days, and I have time to contemplate my moves. Which I do at work. And on my lunch break. And at shows.

Happy Day Off Day!!!

Man, after working eight days in a row, ending with a full day shift, I am so happy to have a day off!! Mind you, I'm probubly gonna spend most of it doing laundry and house cleaning, but still NO WORK!!! YAY!!!

And I have saturday and sunday off too!!! So, yeah, I'll spend most of today cleaning and stuff so that I won't have to do anything on the weekend. Making it the best weekend ever!!!

Wow! Just woke up from crashing! I was pretty damn tired, so I guess that's pretty much expected. Especially since I stayed up all night tuesday watching heroes/making a costume and didn't get to bed yesterday til...I think it was 2:40? And then went to work for 8. I may have been dressed up as a zombie yesterday, but today I really was one!

Wish I could have stayed for Bloodbath, but it took waaay too long, and I guess some sense of responsibility kicked in. That, and had no more money left for beer. Good ol' broke-dom, making me look at my watch more than I would otherwise!

E-mailed the Rock Garden about booking some jam time on Sunday. I'm pretty excited about getting this band going. It seems that the three of us are on the same page as far as what direction we want to go in. The idea if writing, and then deconstructing songs to see what new facets could be brought to light has fascinated me ever since listening to Yankee Hotel Foxtrot. But first I want to get down simple, catchy, basic songs. But ones with a good lyrical narrative too. That we're really not limiting ourselves to one genre will keep things pretty open-ended. Give us so much territory to explore.

So the pop explosion's been really good so far. Went to seahorse on tuesday for the Devorce showcase. It was my first time seeing Ol' Time Relijin, and was really into them. The fun part was watching Nathan's mind be blown away when one of the members played two saxiphones at once!! Incredible! Aidswolf were pretty much what I expected them to be, crazy noise/art rock. At one piont the singer tried to make her way into the crowd. And since I was right up front, started with a nose-to-nose staredown with me. I'm not sure who won. Probubly her, since I ended up with makeup on my nose.

Last night was my first time in the newly re-opened Marquee. I like the idea of blocking off half of the room for smaller shows, it makes it more intimate. It was my first time seeing I See Rowboats, amazingly since they've played alot since their formation. Didn't know what to expect, and was blown away! Easily one of my favorite new bands in Halifax. Laura was as great as she always is, not much to say other than that. One of the best songwriters in the city. Besnard Lakes were really good too. Nice balance of wall-of-sound rockers and slow-burners.

So, yeah, so far it's been really good. Tonite, it's all about getting my dance on in Hell. Because really, you're in Hell...might as well get your dance on!

Hmm...I really should do some sort of "state of the geek" address on this thing. I wrote something last night but it was just...well, it was to drunken, let's just put it that way. So, let's see...what's gone on since last year?

Actually, not a hell of alot. And it's been kinda nice in that reguard. Work's been alright, though september was kinda hectic. Working two twelve hour shifts and then a split shift in a row is pretty much the definition of "not fun". But hopefully my manager will hire another part-timer and ease my workload a bit.

Music-wise, there have been some interesting turns and developments. Spincycle is still on hiatus, though there's talk of finishing up the rest of the tracks that we did with charles. Les Cocque may just resserect itself for a show next week, we'll see. The Impromptu Punk Band that I have with Brendan and Chris Deon actually played a show last week. We played last and, as you can imagine, was quite a drunken exhabition. We played pretty well, though. Might turn into an actual band, who knows. I'm most excited about the project that me, Beardo, and Martin are starting. I think there's potential for, at the very least, alot of fun!

As for my personal life, well, this year was all about me not having one. Or at least not as far as women and romance and blah blah blah blah is concerned. Which was completely intentional, surprisingly easy, and precisely what I needed to do. There's still alot of stuff I have to sort out in my head and other vital organs. Contemplate my existance. That sort of stuff. But for now...I think things are going in the right direction.

On one hand, it's gonna be great having the long weekend to myself. It's not too often that I actually get that much time to myself. On the other hand, it will be odd not to spend thanksgiving at home. And not just because I'll be missing Gobblefest...it's always been a time that I've always made it home to spend some time with my parents. I will miss that. A lot.

But, thanks to the small miracle called the gst check, I think I'm gonna go and buy a chicken and some other fixings and have a thanksgiving on my own. I knew there would come a time when, for one reason or another, I wouldn't make it home for an occasion.

But I will make it home for Christmas. That's for darned sure!!

I'm trying very hard to keep myself from being annoyed at someone. I'm staring at my pez dispensers. The first one i got was a lamb, later dubbed "the lamb of god" by this girl I used to know. The second one is of garfield with a bedcap on. I used to be really into Garfield when I was younger. The third is a spider-man one, a friend gave it to me. i think it might have been for my birthday. The fourth one is of Pluto, the dog (not the planet). A friend from work gave it to me. We were both going through alot of shit at the time.

Anyway, just want to drop a line saying things have been pretty good lately. I'm even thinking of re-evaluating point #2 of the six point thing I wrote a while back. I'm still pretty cautious and cynical...I don't know, we'll see.

Brutalize The Dancefloor is becoming something weird but fun! It's gonna be interesting the first time we play anywhere, which will most definitely be a Rocking For Dollars. Improv all casio keyboard band...so nuts!

I've also been feeling pretty inspired lately. I think a bit of it has to do with watching Dead Poets Society for the first time in along while. It's just one of those movies that makes you want to do more, experience more, to "suck the marrow out of life". It's something I forget from time to time, but a lesson that's well worth re-learning.

Wandering around the citidal late at night was pretty fun and exciting. Wandering around the catacombs, searching for some sort of adventure. I do enjoy the history that is a part of such places. Still want to go on an actual tour there sometime. Maybe sunday if anyone's into it.

Anyway, I really should be getting ready for work.

So, yet another friend of mine getting married. Going out to his bachelor party tonight. This will be the fourth one this year.

I am contemplating doing something moderately stupid. As the six-point essay I did would indicate, I've been giving alot of thought about the future. About who I am, what I want, and what I can or can't have. I've started making plans for the future, something I've never really done before. And I'm starting to feel like I finally have some sense of direction. But still...

I was in the process of cleaning up my place the other night, and I noticed this little trinket that was given to me. Reminding me of a time when things were not as heavy as they are now. Maybe it would be foolish to try to reclaim it. Maybe the foolishness would be in not trying at all.

I have no desire for romance. I've lost my taste for it. But a part of me does long for something more than just this bare existence.

Are these things which I contemplate the workings of a sane man?

Alright, here we go:

1. Let's get gloriously self-destructive! And why the hell not? I've taken to this drinking thing pretty well since I started. And any attempt to stop has never worked. So when i can afford to I should. The more I try not to, the more I go back to it. If this is my natural stat of being, than I will embrace it whole-heartedly. Along with...

2. I'm a loner. And really I've known that all my life. Don't believe me? Let's go back through the archives for this little ditty. A little bit dramatic for the time, but still hits the nail right on the head. And while there are people and friendships that I cherish, I'm essentially on my own. Anything else just doesn't work for some reason, so why bother. It's just a waste of time. And it's not like I won't be around people alot because...

3. I'm starting an inhuman amount of bands! And why the hell not? I have all these ideas for songs in my head, why not do something with them? (and yes, there will be new spincycle songs too. had a few ideas yesterday in fact.) First up is getting Brutilize The Dancefloor off the ground. So if you're involved in that, get in touch.

As a bit of an aside, I had a drunken discussion (the only type i have now) about how i'd be happy to be in band that didn't perform live. Not to say that I'm planning to do this with a band, but for me it's the creation of songs that's the thing, and playing them live is secondary.

4. I'm going back to school! And why the hell not? Gonna go part-time in january. And I can't wait. English lit here I come! Now I know some of you are thinking, "why not just take something more practical at community college". Well for me the choice is simple. I could read and learn about about the greatest written works of our time, or I could learn to spot-weld. Not much of a choice, really. Already getting mysepf primed, making my way through essential greek epics and working my way up. And after I've done that...

5. "I'm leaving on a jet plane..." And why the hell not? I'm going to travel by way of teaching english. I've always wanted to do some traveling, and i've been told there's good money in teaching english, so this seems like a no-brainer. I'll save up a ton of money and then....

6. I'm not sure... This is what I haven't figured out yet. I could go into teaching, but i'm not sure if i'm cut out for that. Though i'm leaning towards starting a comic book shop somewhere, Or maybe a comic book/bookstore and attempt to bridge the gap between the two markets. This, to me, sounds more fullfilling.

Hey kids! Remember when i used to write whatever i felt on here and didn't give a fuck? I'm gonna try to bring that back again.

Had a really..something dream last nite. It involved this girl that i hadn't seen in years. It all seemed so real. I was meeting her parents for the first time (I'd met them before, but not as a "couple" as in the dream) and i was really scared. And she held my hand and looked into my eyes, and I felt this feeling that everything was alright. And then i woke up. And then i tried to get back to sleep, trying to coax that dream back. Almost was late for work because of it. Almost was late because...it felt good.

I wonder where she is now?

Well, i should get to pounding some water into me and get to sleep. Gotta wake up early and clean my place (a constant job), check to see if we can jam, and...i donno...I'm sure there's other stuff.

And i'll try to get back to writing for the myspace account. Just haven't been up to writing at all, for various reasons.

So, I've been pretty sick for the past couple of days. It started on friday, where I was throwing up so much I thought I was going to die. No, really.

Anyway, feeling alot better now. The eating of solid food last night was much more successful than the one made on saturday. Though the 45min on the toilet earlier this morning, along with what can only be described as "wierd things going on with my stomach" have made me lean on the side of caution and stay home from work another day. Maybe i'm being over-cautious. But i'd rather that than do anything to aggrivate it.

I just want to say a big "thank you!" to the folks over at the Lawrence Street pad for taking me in while I was sick. Especially to Lisa and Julia for waiting all that time with me in Emergency and generally taking care of me. I love you both.

Anyway, I'm gonna have some j-e-l-l-o and head back to bed. Feel free to give me a call if any of you are bored today. Lord knows i'll probably be.

I've put a new song up, finally! Yay!!!

So yeah, wilco in Portland. It was great! I mean, I've said before how Tweedy's lyrics seem to articulate who I am and how I feel better than anyone else. But hearing it live just brought it straight home. One of the best moments of the night was when Jeff backed away from the mic during "Jesus, etc." and all you could hear was the whole theatre singing "our love...our love...our love is all we have" It was like food for my soul. The whole concert was very spiritual in a way for me, which probubly sounds pretty stupid but it's true.

Actually the last couple of weeks have been kinda spiritual in a way. Not in a "religious, god-loving" sense, but more of a rejuvenation of spirit. Of looking into your inner self, cutting away the crap, and seeing what lies beneath. Of looking at who you've been, who you are, and who you're going to be. Which, for me, has been pretty much overdue. And i'm not sure if anything resembling progress is being made, but things seem to be feeling right. Which is better than a couple of weeks ago when I woke up at like five in the morning with the overwhelming feeling that everything was wrong.

it's like at the end of the concert when Jeff said (paraphrasing): "It doesn't matter what shit is going on or how fucked up things get, you just have to believe that we can make it better..."

It was almost like he was talking to me.
This all sounds really lame, doesn't it?

So, it would seem the reason i was so fucked up yeaterday was that not only was I hung over, but i was developing that cold that it seems everyone I know has. Well thanks alot people, now I have it too!

So yeah, no new song today either. Just got up from a much needed nap. Le Coque are playing the Rockin' For Dollars tonite for the big money, so it was more the case of making sure I was good for that. I might just put two songs up on Sunday or something.

And on wednesday I head off to see Wilco!! I'm so excited!!! Been a while since i've been on a road trip! I'm gonna pump myself full of so much cold meds so that I'm in good shape for then.
